About Me

I am Carlos Nevarez Jr., a dedicated public servant with more than four decades of experience in law enforcement, military service, and community engagement.

Over the course of my career, I have proudly served as a New Mexico State Police Officer, a Federal Police Officer, and I currently serve as a Police Officer for New Mexico Highlands University. These roles have provided me with a broad, practical understanding of how the justice system affects people at every level, from local communities and campus environments to statewide and federal jurisdictions.

In addition to my law enforcement career, I am proud to have served our country in the United States Marine Corps and the New Mexico National Guard. My time in uniform reinforced the values of discipline, accountability, and service to others that have guided my work throughout my career.

My academic background further strengthens this foundation. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with an emphasis in law, and I am currently working toward completing my Master’s Degree in Political Science. The combination of real-world law enforcement experience and formal education in political and legal studies has shaped a balanced, informed, and principled approach to justice.

Throughout my career, I have remained committed to professionalism, fairness, and accountability. I have listened to our community's concerns, responded to its needs, and built lasting relationships built on trust and respect. These values guide me today as I seek to serve the people of San Miguel County as your Magistrate Judge.

Fairness. Integrity. Accountability.
